Rashmi, adding yeast can be tricky. Some of my bread dough has "refused" to rise too. Water you add to yeast must be warm between 90 to 110F. Less warm than that will not help yeast and too warm water or milk will kill the yeast. I have a temp strip to check the warmth now. Adding sugar for yeast is imp too, raisins don't make any

Your pictures look amazing! I tried this recipe today with Dried Active Yeast and it totally flopped. The dough did not rise at all :(. I noticed you ask us to refrigerate the dough - doesn't that kill the yeast? Also, does adding raisins change the way the yeast react?
I don't know what I did wrong :(

Soma, skip the Egg. One single egg doesn't make that of a difference but it's good if you can add it. Just follow the recipe without Egg in the dough, just make sure Yeast is fresh and dough doubles in volume! :)

Asha I have been wanting to make dinner rolls for a long time.. all recipes I find are with eggs. If i need to omit the eggs as you mentioned does it change the texture or the fluff? Do let me know. they look beautifully done and I can see the numerous air pockets.

Mahek, as long as Yeast is fresh and the dough doubles in size, I think you can bake them successfully. India is warm now, so rising the dough probably take less time than here, may be just an hour. Don't avoid butter though, key for a soft Buns! :)

Long for those Khara buns to snack with evening tea. Brings back memeories when we were in Bangalore. I need to try to make it at home. The one time I made it they turned hard.
