DAL PALAK (Chana-Tuar dal with Spinach)

A north Indian fare, Dal Palak! Both Dal and spinach are healthy ,light ,visually pleasing and nutritious.It is not only tastes delicious with parathas, also easy to prepare in a jiffy .There is no need to say anything else, is there? Try it and taste it. Let me know how you liked my Dal Palak!:)



YOU NEED:
1/2 Cup Chana Dal
1/2 Cup Tuar Dal
2-3 Cups Spinach
3-4 Cherry Tomatoes
Cilantro
Salt
Little sugar

1 tsp ground Ginger
1 tsp ground Garlic
2 tsp Coriander Powder
1 tsp Cumin Powder
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
1/2 tsp Chilli Powder or 2 green chillies minced

SEASON WITH:

1 tsp Oil and 1 tsp Ghee
1 tsp Mustard Seeds(optional)
1 tsp Cumin Seeds
1-2 Dry Red Chillies
1 Big Onion chopped

METHOD:

1. Cook dals but not to a mush.Chop spinach and keep aside.
2. Season with oil to onion.when golden,add ground ginger- garlic and stir for few minutes.
3. Add all the dry spices along with tomatoes,salt and sugar ,cook until pasty.
4. Put in spinach, 1 Cup water ,cover and cook till soft.Add in dals, simmer until oil shows and gravy thickens.
You can season it after they are cooked instead on step 2.It looks better but no difference in taste.


Serve with:

Or with Cumin flavored rice:

Thank you so much - I tried this and loved it. I didn't have Toor dal so only used Chana dal. Next time, I have to pressurize it less - the dal came out a bit mushy but the end result was still delicious! I added fresh Methi leaves before adding spinach - yum!

I love Chana dal to make this too, called Cholar dal. dding Methi sounds yum as well, enjoy! :)
I cook Chana dal in pressure cooker on medium heat. As soon as pressure builds up, I take the cooker off the stove. That way it won't get mushy, Tuar dal needs more cooking.
